EXTRA

EXTRA

EXTRATM is a program that offers organized soccer for players who want to play at a more competitive level. Club soccer teams are in place in many parts of the country, but for those who want to play harder and still be a part of AYSO, EXTRA is perfect.

All players need to be pre-registered for tryouts. Login to register!

June 7, Central Davis Jr High, Layton
June 8, Emma Russell Park, Roy

Birth Years 2012 - 2015
5:30 pm - 6:45pm: U9 (2015), U10 (2014) Boys and Girls
7:00 pm - 8:15 pm: U11 (2013), U12 (2012) Boys and Girls

*Please arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early to check in.

All tryouts are 2 days.  Although not mandatory, it is highly recommended to attend BOTH days of tryouts. Players who are offered a spot on a team will receive an offer letter via email after tryouts are complete and will have until the end of weekend after the conclusion of the second tryout session to accept the position on the team.

Players who are not offered a spot on a team will receive a decline letter shortly later after we’ve confirmed the team rosters.

Games are typically held on weekdays (once a week) and practices once or twice a week depending on coaches. Coaches will determine when they want to hold team practices and whether their team will particpate in any summer tournements or indoor soccer in the winter. Most coaches will attend one tournament in the summer and one session of indoor in the winter. Cost for tournaments and indoor soccer are not included in the registration price.

For 2023-2024 season (fall and spring) we will be doing tryouts for U10 and U12 divisions (U9 through U12, Birth Years 2012-2015) second week of June. We will not be building teams for older divisions.

Regions participating in the AYSO EXTRA program include Layton, Syracuse, Ogden, South Ogden, Ogden Valley, and Roy. This is the furthest that these teams will travel to with half of the games in the season being home games.

EXTRA gives athletes whose interests and abilities lead them to a more progressive soccer experience. You can feel secure knowing your child is part of a trusted organization and will be given fair playing time. EXTRA doesn’t take away from the regular program, but adds to the strength of the organization by keeping players and their families in AYSO.

Your Region determines the organization of EXTRA play to suit its needs and numbers, but AYSO’s core philosophies are still in place: everyone on the team plays at least 50 percent of each game; selection to teams is based on open and fair evaluations; and the teams are chosen to create a competitive balance.

EXTRA players that also participate in the primary program at the same time can participate fully with both teams as well as All Star, tournament, National Games, and travel teams. Players playing only on an EXTRA team are eligible for tournament, travel or other secondary program teams.

EXTRA can only be offered in areas with a regular AYSO program and is coordinated with the support of local leadership. No paid coaches or referees are allowed. All AYSO standards for training and certification for coaches and referees are in place.

PROGRAM OFFERING

AYSO Extra is a tryout based program that competes against other teams in interregional play. Games play within our designated Area (9R) and teams could potentially travel between Farmington and Brigham City and into the Ogden Valley. Teams will play every team in their division once during the Fall season and once in the Spring season. Players can choose to play Extra in addition to or independently of our CORE program. The cost for EXTRA program covers:

  • (2) Uniforms - one Home and one Away, with the player's number of choice on the jersey and shorts. Uniforms are customized for the Extra program and feature upgrades from the CORE uniform.
  • A higher level of competition that still features AYSO's Six Philosophies, including "Everyone Plays ®" - meaning your player will participate in at least half of every game they attend.
  • Referee incentives that ensure an AYSO certified center referee and two certified assistant referees are present at EVERY game.
  • Team training sessions with coaches from UK International Soccer Camps during the week of June soccer camp.

Since the Extra program is a tryout based program, you will not be charged until your player has accepted an official invitation from the team after the conclusion of tryouts.

WHY CHOOSE EXTRA?

Why Choose AYSO Extra for Your Child

Because AYSO EXTRA™ is AYSO.

We understand that you may have a choice of soccer programs for your child. So, why choose AYSO EXTRA™? AYSO EXTRA™ was developed to create more competitive soccer experiences without losing sight of what makes AYSO unique.

First, AYSO EXTRA™ is governed by the Six Philosophies that set AYSO apart from other youth soccer organizations:
  • Everyone Plays - Our goal is for kids to play soccer - so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least a half of every game.

  • Balanced Teams - Each year we form teams as evenly balanced as possible - because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.

  • Open Registration - Our program is open to all children. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing. Players not selected for EXTRA™ teams are guaranteed placement on a team in AYSO's standard primary program.

  • Positive Coaching - Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment and learning by the players and ultimately leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players.

  • Good Sportsmanship - We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and every AYSO program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in all participants.

  • Player Development - We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.
Second, AYSO EXTRA™ is run and operated locally, by the same neighbors who run and operate all of AYSO's programs, and is supported by an extraordinary national organization.

Third, AYSO EXTRA™ coaches are trained under AYSO's coaching program, the only youth soccer coaching program accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education

Fourth, AYSO EXTRA™ is more challenging quality soccer at a less challenging cost than similar programs.

Finally, AYSO EXTRA™ is designed to be FUN. A higher level of competition should never prevent players from enjoying themselves - the AYSO Way.

What are some of the experts saying about EXTRA™?

"The best teacher of the game of soccer is the game itself; guaranteed playing time is what makes AYSO EXTRA such a great program for young soccer players."

- Tim Ward - Head Coach, Pepperdine University Women's Soccer Team

"AYSO EXTRA values positive coaching as a way to help players build their confidence and improve their soccer skills."

Ian Feuer - Goalkeeper Coach - LA Galaxy, former goalkeeper for West Ham United, New England Revolution, U.S. Men's National Team and the U.S. Olympic Team.

So, when deciding between AYSO EXTRA and other programs, ask yourself the following questions:
  • Is my child guaranteed to play at least one-half of every game?
  • Do the coaches utilize positive coaching techniques and emphasize good sportsmanship?
  • Are the coaches trained under an accredited curriculum?
  • Is the focus on keeping the fun in the game while competing hard?
  • Are the people running the program local volunteers?
  • Am I getting good value for my registration dollar?

When you answer the questions, and take into consideration all of the things that make AYSO special, we believe that you will find that AYSO EXTRA™ is the right choice for you and your child.
